In-Car navigation and Entertainment in One
the first integrated in-car navigation and in-car entertainment system

As consumer demand for sophisticated, precise in-car navigation solutions continues to grow, Pioneer today launches the AVIC-X1, Europe's first DVD navigation and audiovisual entertainment system featuring Memory Navigation, a unique new feature with which drivers can now simultaneously map their route using the latest in-car navigation technology, whilst enjoying their in-car entertainment systems. Eliminating the need for two separate systems, Pioneer's unique Memory Navigation function enables drivers to remove the map disc from the navigation unit once the route has been uploaded, and replace it with a DVD, allowing back seat passengers to enjoy a movie whilst the driver listens to the radio and uses the fully motorised in-dash display to navigate.

In addition to the innovative new memory function, Pioneer's new AVIC-X1 includes City Maps, a Pioneer developed European industry first in map design, offering the driver a true, clear representation of the roads ahead in ten major European cities1. Thanks to Tele Atlas, a world leader in digital map data and location content, the AVIC-X1 features increased map content and points of interest to enable the driver to map any journey with ease and speed.

Geert Verhoeven, new media product planning manager, Pioneer Europe NV says, "Sophisticated car entertainment and navigation systems are becoming increasingly popular. Top of the list for consumers is peace of mind, reduced stress and avoiding traffic problems. At a similar price to a stand alone navigation system the new AVIC-X1 answers all these needs and combines navigation for the driver with radio/CD for the front seats and DVD video for rear seat passengers. This industry first will greatly enhance the user experience and provide the perfect solution for either the family on the road or the travelling executive."

Alain De Taeye, chief executive officer at Tele Atlas, provider of Pioneer's AVIC-X1's digital map content, says, "These competitively-priced Pioneer high-end navigation and multimedia systems are undoubtedly among the most advanced and appealing products on the market and we are delighted to be so closely associated with them and with Pioneer as a leader in consumer electronics," said Alain De Taeye, Chief Executive Officer at Tele Atlas. "We are convinced the combination of Pioneer technology and Tele Atlas data will provide consumers with the best navigation solutions and the two companies with a flourishing partnership."

Find your way
The AVIC-X1 in-car navigation system boasts intuitive and interactive touch screen panels, optional voice recognition, increased map content, and an intelligent rerouting system. A combination of Tele Atlas' essential map data and Pioneer's advanced navigation systems ensures drivers can plan a route safely, simply and efficiently in 17 European countries2 and in many cases right down to the house number within seconds. More than 1,300,000 points of interest for 65 different categories, such as car dealers, hotels, restaurants, airports, can be selected as destinations or as stop-over points.

The touch screen creates an intuitive and easy to use navigation system that is accessible at the touch of a finger. Compared to remote control operation, touch panel operation is four times as fast and increases driver safety as less input and cursor scrolling is required. Large keypad icons create ease of screen navigation for the driver, superior colour and enhanced graphics provide greater screen clarity and anti-glare and anti-fingerprint technology ensure that regardless of how many kilometres have been navigated, the screen remains clearly visible.

With the CD-VC1 voice command option drivers can also take advantage of the AVIC-X1's voice recognition functionality to perform address searching. Thanks to this advanced feature, users can keep their hands on the wheel, set routes to registered points of interest and address book entries, change the routing, change the map scale or cancel a route simply by speaking to the unit. In addition, frequently used functions, or functions that require numerous touches on the screen plus audio and video sources can be voice controlled.
Off the beaten track
The built-in traffic message channel offers the benefit of up-to-the-minute detailed traffic information. In the event of a problem or traffic event being picked up, the system automatically presents the driver with an alternative route. Users are also alerted to upcoming motorway exit numbers by the motorway exit guidance feature and clear visual images of the road and connecting streets are provided to ensure the correct route is taken.

The final step to ensure drivers don't lose their way is the intelligent reroute feature that is activated as soon as a user diverts off the designated route. If a driver makes a mistake or leaves the programmed route the intelligent reroute function detects the change and recalculates a new route to the destination.

By connecting an optional rear view camera drivers can also be guided through parking and driving manoeuvres using the AVIC-X1's automatic rear view camera and split screen mode. The in-dash screen provides the driver with a full rear view of the vehicle to ensure ease of parking and the split screen mode acts as a replacement wing mirror for large vehicles and even as a security camera for the driver to check valuables in the back of the van.

Enjoy the ride
Pioneer's AVIC-X1 includes a built-in DVD-Video/ MP3 CD player and D4Q, Pioneers renowned digital AM/FM Tuner. In addition the system can be expanded with other sources such as DAB radio, CD changer, DVD changer and TV tuner. MP3 compatibility means consumers can also enjoy an amazing selection of music on the road, without the hassle of storing a pile of discs in the car. Selection of music tracks and radio stations couldn't be easier for the driver. When selecting an MP3, inserting a CD or choosing a radio station all track listings and names are immediately displayed. Dual Zone functionality also allows the driver to enjoy one source, while rear seat passengers can enjoy an alternative one using optional headphones.

Pioneer's AVIC-X1's touch panel display has been enhanced by a new Graphical User Interface (GUI) to create a safer journey for the driver. The various audio and navigation functions are operated at the touch of a finger and even advanced sound adjustments can be made using the touch screen.

Track performance
For the car performance conscious drivers, the AVIC-X1's vehicle dynamics monitor is an easy, fun and precise way of measuring a car's performance. Acceleration, cornering force, turn rate and incline can all be measured to provide a real-time analysis of the car's performance through analogue and digital gauges on the LCD monitor.

The personal touch
Pioneer's new AVIC-X1 allows users to create customised wallpapers for the touch panel display. Customers can replace the preset wallpapers of the touch panel display with personalised photos or images.

Stay safe
Pioneer's AVIC-X1 is a car radio replacement device, fitting into the standard car radio installation space (DIN sized). The attractive touch panel display folds away into the dashboard to appear as a radio unit whenever the car is unattended. This detachable faceplate can also be removed to help prevent unwanted attention and theft.
