Pioneer launches first micro hi-fi systems with advanced wireless networking featuring AirPlay support

Micro hi-fi systems designed to the highest audio standards with iPod/iPhone dock and versatile USB input for iPad.

Pioneer Europe introduces two new all-in-one micro hi-fi systems that are designed to the highest audio standards and offer AirPlay1, an iPod/iPhone dock and a versatile USB input for iPad. Also included are DLNA support, internet radio and much more. Connected to a home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the feature-packed systems seamlessly stream high-quality audio directly from a PC2 and DLNA-equipped3 Android smartphone or tablet PC, resulting in the finest sound quality playback of a personal music library. Via AirPlay, users can stream music from iTunes on a Mac or PC, or from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the micro systems.

The new X-HM81-K looks as good as it sounds.

“Pioneer’s X-HM81 and X-HM71 are the perfect systems to harness the true potential of digital music players and make the most of digital music collections at home. Thanks to Pioneer’s advanced sound concept, the space-saving systems deliver room-filling hi-fi sound,” explains Philippe Coppens, Technology and Product Information Manager, Pioneer Europe.

The compact hi-fi systems integrate a discreet dock on top for an iPhone or iPod4, offering critical users the purest sound performance by skipping intermediate digital-to-analogue conversion steps. The systems play music straight from a docked iPhone or iPod, exactly as it's stored and charge the mobile device at the same time. Equipped with a composite video output, the X-HM81 and X-HM71 also allow playback of videos from iPhone or iPod on a large screen.

Via AirPlay, users can easily stream audio wirelessly to the X-HM81 and X-HM71 from their Mac, PC, iPhone, iPod or iPad over a Wi-Fi network— great for those with large portable music collections. In addition, the X-HM81 allows users to stream their music using DLNA or from their Bluetooth wireless technology enabled devices (optional AS-BT200 Bluetooth adapter required).

Playback of MP3 or WMA files is supported from both the front USB input as well as from the built-in, hi-fi quality CD-drive mechanism, which is compatible with CD and CD-R/RW discs. Via the front USB connector, iPad owners can enjoy playback with charging support as well.

Rounding out the hi-fi systems is an AM/FM RDS tuner with 40 memory presets for uncomplicated radio listening. On top, radio fans will be able to enjoy thousands of internet radio stations from all over the world via vTuner.

At the heart of the X-HM81 and X-HM71 is a 2 x 50 Watts Class D amplifier which delivers powerful, rich sound from a compact body. The hi-fi systems’ 2-way bass-reflex speakers further enhance their performance. The flagship X-HM81 is rigidly built with a layered chassis that eliminates vibration and is complemented by expertly built glossy black bookshelf loudspeakers which include a 120 mm woofer and 25 mm soft dome tweeter. The X-HM71 is accompanied by black wood finish speakers, integrating a 120 mm glass fibre woofer and 20 mm soft dome tweeter. The X-HM81 will also be available without the speakers as model number XC-HM81.

Those in search of an enhanced bass experience will appreciate a subwoofer pre-out and the ‘P-BASS’ bass enhancer function. For easy genre-matching music enjoyment, the hi-fi systems feature 6 equaliser presets: Flat/Game/Classic/Pops/Vocal/Jazz. A convenient timer/sleep function, which enables users to wake up and go to sleep with their favourite music completes the feature set.

The new Pioneer ControlApp allows users to control their micro system from the convenience of their iPhone or iPod touch. With Pioneer ControlApp, users can turn the micro system on and off, adjust sound modes, change inputs and control Internet radio and DLNA streaming content, as well as select memorised radio tuner stations. The app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at App Store. A dedicated version for Android is also available.

Offering a unique blend of true hi-fi performance, convenience and tasteful styling with main units in black or silver brushed aluminium, the X-HM81 and X-HM71 are guaranteed to look as good as they sound. They incorporate a 2.4-inch QVGA colour LCD that displays music content information (e.g. album art and format details) and leads to a higher user experience. Though at home in any surrounding, these compact micro components are ideal for a second room, bedroom or home office and can easily be installed on a bookshelf or desk.

The X-HM71 will be available from August 2012, followed by the X-HM81 in September and the XC-HM81 in October.
