Demonstrating a next generation head-up display (HUD)

At both AMICOM and AutoRAI, we will be exhibiting our newly developed next generation Head-Up Display (HUD) for cars that links in with the navigation function available on many modern smartphones.
The system, which was previewed last year at the CEATEC expo in Japan and at CES in Las Vegas in January, draws on laser technology developed in DVD and Blu-ray Disc research and our proprietary information services platform Smartloop, developed for car navigation.
It utilises Pico Projector display technology with red, blue and green lasers to bring full colour to the display.
The HUD’s laser light source enables it to project clear information onto the windscreen. With MEMS-based raster scanning display and new optical design, this HUD renders more vibrant and high contrast images.
The large screen improves visibility, presenting useful real time information without jeopardising your safety.
By connecting a smartphone, constant network access is provided and the system will offer an array of services such as next-generation navigation services, traffic congestion information, electric vehicle related information and other info based on personal preferences.
The special-purpose combiner facilitates installation in various car models.
AMICOM, Germany’s leading trade fair for the in-car electronics industry, will showcase the HUD on 9 and 10 April. Subsequently, the HUD will be exhibited at AutoRAI from 12 to 23 April.
We expect the Head-Up Display to arrive on the market by 2012, with initial production likely limited to aftermarket systems. However, we are in talks with car manufacturers regarding OEM integration.
