External Hard Disk Connection

If you would like to increase the size of the system’s hard disk drive you can connect another hard disk via the eSATA terminal.

eSATA is a computer bus technology designed for the transfer of data to and from a hard disk.

Of course, the hard disk you choose needs to comply with the External Serial ATA specifications.

The following models of external eSATA hard disk drive units have been reported by to work with the DVR-940HX-S:

• Freecom Hard Drive PRO 1000GB (1000GB)
•  Iomega eSATA/USB 2.0 "Black Series" Desktop Hard Drive (300 GB)
• Iomega Professional Hard Drive eSATA 3 Gbits/USB 2.0 (750GB)
•  LaCie d2 eSATA II 3Gbits Hard Drive (500GB)
•  LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Drive (750GB)
• Seagate eSATA Exterrnal Hard Drive ST3300601XS-RK (300GB)
•  Western Digital My Book Home Edition WDH1CS10000 (1000GB)
• Western Digital My Book Studio Edition WDH1Q10000 (1000GB)

Unfortunately it is practically impossible to make a list of all external eSATA hard disk drive units that are 100% guaranteed to work.

The reason for this is that the internal control software and / or the hard disk drives that are used may frequently change during the production lifetime.

If you find that your eSATA unit doesn’t work with your DVR-940HX-S, please let us know by contacting your nearest Pioneer office.

For your reference, please also note the following:

•  The external eSATA hard disk unit can only be used by the DVR-940HX to store video content.
•  The DVR-940HX only supports connection of one external eSATA HDD unit at a time.
•  When using an external eSATA HDD unit for the first time, or when connecting an external eSATA HDD unit you have been using with another device, the DVR-940HX checks the disk and then will propose to initialize the disk in order to make it available to this recorder. Initializing the external eSATA HDD unit will erase all the existing data on it.
•  For copyright protection purposes, the external eSATA HDD unit cannot be used with any DVD recorder other than the one that was used to initialize it. If the external eSATA HDD unit is connected to another DVD recorder (even of the same type), it will need to be re-initialized before use. All recorded data (including protected titles) on the external eSATA HDD unit is erased if it is reinitialized.
