Put simply, HD Digital Film Direct means “Master Quality”: what you see and hear on your flat-screen is exactly as the film-makers intended. Absolutely true to the original.
We’ve applied this standard as a label (see the logo on the right) to those of our products that accurately handle 24fps (frames per second) movie content; this will help you make the right product choice for the true HD movie experience.Films are typically shot, developed and encoded for cinema reproduction at 24fps.
Regular PAL broadcasting and DVD have always played these images back at 25 fps (50Hz).
This has the effect of speeding up images and raising the pitch of sounds and voices.
But, the new high definition discs, like Blu-ray Disc, offer you access to a digitised ”true to the original” copy of the theatrical movie content.
We offer a product range that is perfectly matched for bringing the real cinema experience into your home: amplifiers, Blu-ray Disc players, home cinema systems and flat-screen TVs with our trademark screening of 24fps source input at 72Hz (3 images displayed per original frame).

Screen Build & Picture Quality
-
The Ultra Black Panel makes it possible to display the deepest black tones. This results in an improved, extreme contrast ratio, with smooth gradation steps and enhanced colour reproduction, especially in dark scenes.
What you see is black – pure black. -
Signal Processing Drive 2HD Yes
PUREDrive 2HD is a unique digital image processing engine.
PURE Drive 2HD offers full digital image processing without numerous analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue conversions, which cause decreased video quality, undesirable noise effects and interference.
The result is that you see the best overall picture quality on-screen. -
The Direct Colour Filter 3+ makes sure that even in brightly lit rooms or areas where light falls directly onto the screen, the picture and perceived black levels remain unaffected by ambient light reflections.
Even in the darkest image areas are always displayed in finely structured detail with no smearing or distortion.
Thanks to the filter, colours are reproduced with significantly greater depth overall, while the reproduction of reds in particular is significantly enhanced. -
Our plasma screens have a unique ‘Deep Waffle Rib Structure’.
This means that each plasma cell is perfectly encapsulated on all sides, so that emitted light cannot leak into neighbouring cells and thereby disperse their brightness.
By enlarging the height of the cell walls, the phosphorus surface area increases, resulting in more vivid colours and increased brightness. -
i-CLEAR Drive Yes
i-CLEAR Drive, another unique component of our plasma screens, efficiently enhances the performance of multi-bit digital video processors to increase the range of colour gradation levels.
Its purpose is to reproduce the most subtle colour differences. -
The Dynamic High Definition (HD) Converter transforms interlaced PAL and NTSC video signals into progressive high resolution signals, using an algorithm that takes into account 84 surrounding cells.
Simply put, this technology creates a high resolution image from a standard resolution source, resulting in smooth, sharp and cleaner images.
Whatever you are watching, the picture is displayed in the highest resolution possible. -
The 3D or "motion adaptive" Y/C separation filter for PAL optimally separates the brightness and colour information, virtually eliminating any cross-colour artefacts and cross-luminance problems.
The 3D Y/C Separation process brings superior video quality into your home. -
Active Dynamic Range Expander (DRE) Yes
The Dynamic Range Expander enhances full spectrum of colour tones after making a real time analysis of the complete video frames.
Pictures are continuously adjusted in order to make optimal use of the panel’s superior contrast range.
To accomplish this, several technologies work together:
• Dynamic Range Correction, which adjusts video dynamically by expanding distribution of the unused histogram.
• Peak Automatic Contrast Limiter, which checks peak level of the total image, and adjusts contrast scale accordingly. The enhanced peak brightness reproduces shining pictures.
• Black Level Expansion which reproduces better black level contrast by displaying the finest gradation when expanding black levels.
• Shade Rendering Engine, which automatically optimises contrast of shaded image parts.
-
Intelligent Mode Yes
The Intelligent Mode performs a picture compensation that results in the optimum colour tones and brightness for on-screen images.
This is ideal when watching your home videos, for example, where the white balance was possibly not correctly captured.
The Intelligent Mode can be switched on or off. -
Colour Temperature Adjustment Yes
The Colour Temperature Setting allows you to adjust the image white tones.
Alternatively, you can individually adjust a colour on our KURO plasma TVs, without affecting adjacent colours, for more vivid and true colour reproduction. -
Colour management is performed using the Intelligent Colour Mode feature, which automatically analyses the video using a unique algorithm, adjusting the setting for natural colour reproduction, whether these are vivid greens or natural skin tones.
-
Enhancer Mode Yes
-
Digital CTI (Colour Transient Improvement) Yes
Digital Colour Transient Improvement (or CTI) is part of the Intelligent Colour Mode.
It functions to bring the edges of coloured images into sharp relief, so pictures are clear and distinct. -
Tired eyes from tiny flickers on a TV screen are now finally a thing of the past. Our progressive scan drive scans all 580 lines in 1/50 of a second and constructs a complete frame.
In addition to progressive scanning, we have developed a new digital method to prevent flicker.
Although 100 Hz scanning is considered to deliver the best result, false contours might appear in some scenes.
The Digital Flicker-Free feature completely eradicates flicker and false contour, ensuring that every image is of the utmost quality. -
3D Noise Reduction cuts down video noise, enabling you to see cleaner, crisper images.
-
Field Noise Reduction Yes
-
Our Plasma screens offer you clear, noise-free images, with several features that detect and minimise all video noise and interference.
Digital Noise Reduction minimises picture noise, reproducing images true to the original.
Block Noise Reduction effectively minimises all MPEG noise, improving the digital quality of HDTV broadcasts in particular, where block noise happens most.
MPEG Noise Reduction reduces mosquito noise typical for MPEG video images without losing detail, useful when viewing DVDs or digital TV channels.
When watching analogue TV, you can also rely on Tuner Noise Reduction, selectable per channel. -
Mosquito Noise Reduction reduces mosquito noise, which typically appears along the contours of a picture generated upon MPEG compression., resulting in noise-free images.

PureCinema Yes
The Pure Cinema mode is perfect for typical film-sourced DVD-Video playback. Pure Cinema automatically detects film-based sources, originally encoded at 24 frames/second.
The digital image processing will detect if individual interlaced fields are coming from the same original film frame and restore the image frame exactly as created for projection in the movie theatre. -
This feature allows you to display two pictures from two separate sources in your screen at once.
This can either be done as a picture inside a picture (PiP) or as a split-screen alternative (picture against picture, or PaP), like the examples below.
This is particularly useful if, for example, you’re watching a DVD but want to keep an eye on the results of a sports game.
