What is HDMI and HDCP?

HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and its purpose is to provide a single digital connection between one compatible product and another.

HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection and is a digital copy protection system that prevents the copying of digital data.

If two devices are connected via an HDMI cable and one of the devices is not HDCP-compliant, no audio or video will be transmitted or received.

Said differently, w hen connected by HDMI, both devices need to be HDCP-compliant.
