New AV Receiver line-up brings 3D experience to your Home Cinema

Pioneer announces a new line of entry level and mid-range AV receivers that deliver a dynamic music and sound experience to your living room. All of the new models (Aside from the entry-level VSX-420) can be enhanced with wireless Bluetooth audio streaming for Bluetooth-enabled devices¹ and are capable of supporting the 3D experience with the latest HDMI version 1.4.

Our new AV receivers deliver dynamic music experience

Consumers looking for the ultimate AV control centre with seamless iPhone and iPod touch integration will find it in Pioneer’s new “Works with iPhone” certified receivers which can be controlled by your iPod or iPhone with Pioneer’s new iControlAV app. This new handy application turns compatible iPhone and iPod touch devices into a fully functioning remote control for Pioneer’s new range of 7.1 channel AV receivers.

“With our new receivers and iControlAV application, consumers can be assured of the highest level of home entertainment. We continue to innovate the AV receiver category by providing a seamless user experience for iPhone and iPod touch users", said Philippe Coppens, Technology and Product Information Manager at Pioneer Europe, “The addition of Bluetooth audio streaming via an optional adaptor allows the user to keep his phone close by to answer calls or select songs without the limitations of a wired connection to the receiver. By equipping all models from the VSX-520-K/S onwards with 3D HDMI 1.4, the new receivers are able to provide 3D high definition connectivity for Blu-ray.”

Expanded iPhone functionality and iControlAV application

Works with iPhonePioneer's new AV receivers deliver expanded iPhone functionality including an application which allows users to control their receiver on their iPod or iPhone using the iControlAV app. All new models will also offer optional Bluetooth audio streaming for wireless devices apart from the entry level VSX-420.

“Works with iPhone” certification

From the VSX-820 onwards the new receivers are iPhone certified and allow for playback of content on an iPhone and iPod touch, including on-screen display of track data, photos and video on a connected TV. An included USB/video cable enables users to listen to their music, view photos and watch downloaded video as well as stream audio and video all while charging their device when connected to the receiver.

Bluetooth audio streaming

BluetoothAll new receivers – except for the VSX-420– feature wireless Bluetooth audio streaming¹ from any Bluetooth-enabled iPhone, iPod touch, Android platform, other smart phone or PC. This allows users to keep their phone nearby while enjoying music through their home cinema system.

¹Bluetooth audio streaming requires optional Pioneer AS-BT100 Bluetooth adaptor and iPod touch (2nd generation or later), iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS with iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

iPhone control button

The VSX-820, VSX-920, VSX-1020 and VSX-1025 come equipped with a front panel button that transfers iPod navigation control and on-screen display from the AV receiver’s remote control back to the connected iPhone or iPod touch so users can easily and quickly navigate through their library of media files directly on the device.

iControlAV app

iControlAV iPhone AppPioneer's iControlAV application provides iPhone and iPod touch users convenient integration of their devices with their home cinema system. The free app turns an iPhone and iPod touch into a fully functioning remote control for the VSX-920, VSX-1020, and VSX-1025 receivers. When the receivers are connected to an existing wireless router via Ethernet, the app allows wireless control of the receivers and includes graphical representations of the following controllable elements:

  • Control– Allows users to adjust the main volume, mute, select and switch inputs including multi-zones and display audio/video status information with a slight touch of the screen.
  • Precision – Allows users to turn on/off two of Pioneer’s proprietary sound enhancements, PQLS which achieves jitterless signal transmission via HDMI from compatible Pioneer Blu-ray Disc players, and Phase Control which permits precise phase control of multi-channel speakers.
  • Balance – With a roll and hold motion users can adjust the output balance of their speakers for 360 degree sound levelling to match their present listening position.
  • Emphasis - With a tilt and hold motion users can adjust dialogue and bass levels of the centre speaker and subwoofer for optimum clarity of soundtracks with dynamic vocals or video games with extra bass.

In addition the iControlAV app integrates core operation control for the soon to be announced new generation of Pioneer Blu-ray Disc players.

3D features

With the exception of the VSX-420, all new Pioneer AV receivers are capable of providing a 3D experience with the latest HDMI version 1.4 and Dolby ProLogic IIz decoding.

HDMI (v.1.4 with 3D)

HDMIHDMI version 1.4 provides more high definition connectivity options for consumers seeking compatibility with the latest video formats, supporting the passage of the high data transfer rate required by the Blu-ray 3D specification as well as a new 3D specific command protocol.

Dolby Pro Logic IIz Decoding

Dolby ProLogic IIzWith the exception of the VSX-420, all new Pioneer receivers are equipped to decode HD Audio formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and feature Dolby ProLogic IIz height channel processing. Dolby ProLogic IIz distinguishes background sounds and adds them to additional front height speakers for an enhanced front surround sound experience.

Creating the depth and dimension of a lifelike soundstage, this speaker configuration is ideal for gamers and may also complement a 3D video experience. The technology provides extra speaker placement options for consumers as well as easier installation solutions. Additionally, from the VSX-920 onwards the new models feature Pioneer’s proprietary Front Wide Mode which adds versatility and dimension to a 7.1 speaker arrangement.

Multimedia connectivity and our proprietary AV technology

Pioneer has incorporated its high quality audio enhancement and advanced room calibration technologies into the new line-up to elevate the sound quality of any compressed audio files.

VSX receivers: broad connectivity, and advanced technology inside

Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR)

In all models the Advanced Sound Retriever enhances compressed audio files by restoring critical data from iPhone, iPod and other portable media players, as well as other compressed audio sources to CD quality.

Sound Retriever AIR

The VSX-920, VSX-1020 and VSX-1025 feature the new Pioneer-developed Sound Retriever AIR. Specifically developed for use with Bluetooth sources, Sound Retriever AIR restores sound pressure and density that were reduced during the Bluetooth compression process and suppresses noise caused by the transmission.

Internet Radio

When connected to a home network with internet access, VSX-920, VSX-1020 and VSX-1025 users can enjoy thousands of internet radio stations worldwide, ranging from music and news to sports. Both models come with 24 preloaded preset stations, easy URL entry of personal favourites and optional keyboard entry through the front USB input.

Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration (MCACC)

From the VSX-520 upwards Pioneer’s proprietary room calibration and sound tuning technology, MCACC, is utilised to analyse the room’s speakers and optimise each one to balance out any room-induced acoustic inaccuracies. MCACC provides an optimal, customised audio experience for any room configuration. The VSX-920, VSX-1020 and VSX-1025 feature Advanced MCACC which adds a wider variety of room calibration options including an adjustable 9-band EQ and on-screen graphic user interface.

Precision Quartz Lock System (PQLS)

The VSX-920, VSX-1020 and VSX-1025 feature the proprietary Pioneer Precision Quartz Lock System (PQLS). When used in combination with a compatible Pioneer Blu-ray Disc player, PQLS eliminates distortion caused by timing errors, giving the best possible quality from audio CD sources when using the HDMI interface. This results in jitterless playback and dynamic sound quality for music CDs.
